Gary Evans is the driving force behind Smart Choice Clinical Prep (SCCP), a visionary leader dedicated to transforming the way nursing students prepare for their careers. 

His journey began with a simple yet powerful realization—nursing students needed more than just theory; they needed more hands-on clinical training to succeed. Inspired by the passion and dedication of his partner, Normadene, he committed himself to creating a program that would bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world practice. 

With an entrepreneurial mindset and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by nursing students, Gary turned his vision into a reality, ensuring that aspiring nurses receive the training, mentorship, and support they need to thrive in their clinical rotations.

Then tragedy struck. In 2020, COVID-19 changed the world overnight. Businesses shut down, life came to a halt, and Gary faced unimaginable personal loss—his youngest sister in June and youngest brother in November. Despite the grief, he and Normadene kept working, navigating a world in crisis. 

Gary continued his role in government while Normadene worked relentless double and triple shifts as an RN in overwhelmed hospitals. Through it all, one truth remained clear: nurses had to keep going. Healthcare didn’t stop, and the need for well-prepared, highly skilled nurses became more evident than ever.

In the aftermath of the pandemic, nursing education underwent a dramatic shift. Clinical rotations, once conducted twice a week, were reduced to just one day per week, leaving students with even fewer opportunities to develop hands-on skills. 

For Gary, this was the turning point. He knew that if nursing students were going to succeed, they needed more hands-on training, not less. Determined to fill this gap, he brought Smart Choice Clinical Prep to life in November 2024, marking the beginning of Connecticut’s first hands-on clinical tutoring program. 

Today, his mission is clear: to empower future nurses with the confidence, skills, and real-world experience needed to provide exceptional patient care.
